The origins of the Women’s World Day of Prayer date back to the USA and Canada in the 19th century when Christian women initiated a variety of co-operative activites in support of women's involvment in mission at home and abroad.  In Shrewsbury in the present day, twenty members of various faiths including the Salvation Army and Quakers meet at the Salvation Army Hall, Coleham.

As we prepare for each day of prayer, we are encouraged to learn about the lives of the women who prepare the service. Through Bible study we come to understand better what the theme for the year means to the authors as well as ourselves. Informed prayer should lead to prayerful action.
